DP1: Ethics for Massage Professionals on a Spiritual Path
3 hours. 3 NCBMT CE hours in Ethics. This course uses the four directions and iconography from the Native American Indian culture (the Healer, Teacher, Visionary & Warrior) to explore ethical issues in our profession and to address personal dynamics that can get in the way of healthy choices, decisions and thought patterns. The most positive incarnation of the Massage Professional is someone who remains centered and clear, someone who responds by honoring the sacred that is innately within each of us as human beings. This approach to ethics serves us not only in each and every session but also in our every day lives. DP2: Foundation of Trust
3 NCBMT CE hours in Ethics. Everything we do, from the moment we first speak to our client to the moment they walk out the door contributes to a level of trust that lays the foundation for a therapeutic, healing opportunity. The small things add up to one overall impression that either creates a foundation of trust or has a client or potential client looking elsewhere. This class will address the factors involved: verbal and non-verbal communication, hands-on contact, presence, focus and presentation. This interactive and hands-on class can change the nature of your professional interactions on the table and off.
DP3: Cupping for Connective Tissue Release and Self-Care
1.5 Days. 10 NCBMT CE hours. The use of cups in a bodywork session are known to be effective at easily, gently and quickly loosening tight tissue, decreasing pain and inflammation and is particularly helpful when working with clients with scar tissue or suffering from whiplash. The technique you will learn is different than that used for Traditional Chinese Medicine and does not employ heat. There will be plenty of time for practice of technical work for client applications as well as for self-care. We will also cover hygienic practices and contraindications.
DP4: Percussion & Asian Hand Techniques
2 Days. 16 NCBMT CE hours. Percussion and Asian hand techniques are known for increasing circulation, warming the tissue and breaking up stagnant energy. If done correctly, these techniques limit hand fatigue and offer a greater variety of techniques to the massage therapist. The first day will be devoted entirely to the learning and practice of 6 types of tapotement (other wise known as drumming or percussion). The second day will cover other Asian hand skills, including Japanese Amma techniques. All techniques will incorporate the foundations of breath control, relaxed hands and rhythm.
